This Learner Agreement (LA) between LoveMaths Tutoring UK and you, the client, sets out how we proceed and the terms and conditions of our working together.

Please read this learner agreement carefully.

Students have different needs. A bright student in a slow class may want help to get high grades. Students falling behind at school may want help to get the best grade they can. A home-schooled student, or one housebound by illness, may want to do a full exam course. Students with special learning problems may want extra time or support to achieve their best. Many students want help revising for an exam.

LoveMaths Tutoring will provide you with a passionate, progressive, targeted and engaging tutoring service built on good client & student relations grounded in trust. We will strive to work hard with all of our students to motivate and educate them towards their desired goals providing them the skills and confidence to open new doors.

This Learning Agreement (LA) between LoveMaths Tutoring and you, the client, sets out how we proceed and the terms and conditions of our working together. If we don’t receive any comments from you we will assume you agree to all these.

You will have now been through the process of contacting us, helping us to gather and build a hollistic picture of your child and help give us an idea of the curriculum, tier and level of support/challenge we may need to offer. The next stage is for us to send you a prior assessment, again this will be targeted appropriately for your child’s grade/year group, and tier of entry (Foundation/Higher). This should be printed, completed and then photographed back to Liam (Founder, Director & Lead Tutor) Liam@lovemathsuk.co.uk , or Natalie (Lead Administrator) Natalie@lovemathsuk.co.uk.

Following the prior assessment – The tutor will then plan appropriately your first session based on this assessment, so that progress is being made from session one and no time is wasted.-At this point, block bookings can be taken should you wish to as well as one off bookings. Payments are to be made via BACS Transfer to the listed account number and sort code. PayPal/cash can be taken (Subject to PayPal Fees – 6.5%), but BACS is preferrable.

The above listed process applies also to any online tutoring that may take place. . Following this, the tutor will then email/share the prior assessment they would like the student to complete. The tutor will also ensure that the student has sufficient means to complete and answer the assessment. In both cases, the assessment should be completed prior to the first tutor session booking.

Our tutors are always qualified Maths teachers and are familiar and experienced with the current GCSE curriculum across various exam boards. You should expect a service that meets the needs of the student and allows them to progress at a pace comfortable for them to meet. Our tutors will make the extra effort to get to know the student, as we believe that progress is rooted and stems from students trusting the tutor/teacher which in turn will motivate them and this in turn results in an increase in learning.

Tutors will plan sessions accordingly that follow on from previous sessions. Hour long sessions will consist of a starter, a review of the previous week/session (Unless it is the first session), A chance for exposition (Teaching), whiteboard work to build student confidence, independent practice using questions that increase in difficulty and complexity, a review and assessment of independent learning, problem solving, a reflection on the session. Tutors may bring worksheets, and they should provide each student with a folder to organize their work.

  • Your tutor will send you a link (Upon completion of first payment) to a virtual classroom where they will be waiting with resources and may have a whiteboard set up for exposition. Tutors may need to send you some resources, so you may need to splitscreen between the resource and the whiteboard. Tutors will try to run the session as close to the breakdown of a face to face session as possible.  Ipads are the best way to interact with our virtual lessons and if you do not have one, we have many company iPads that we are able to loan out. By agreeing to this learner agreement when loaning one of these iPads, you are also agreeing to keep these iPads safe, and return them in the same condition they were given to you in.

Ipads should only be used for accessing the zoom call, and should be sufficiently charged (minimum 2 hours charge) prior to the session, or you may not be eligible for a reschedule free of charge if you cannot access.

Damage Excess – If the ipads are not returned in the same conditions they were given to you in then by signing this learner agreement (When loaning an iPad) you agree to pay a one off £50 damage fine for iPads 8th Generation or older

During 2022 we have recently invested in new iPads for our students, which are 9th generation. Damage fine for these iPads stands at £200.

En Damage fees are payable under such circumstances (But not limited to):

    • Cracked screen
    • Broken camera
    • Broken Mic
    • Broken Speakers
    • Water Damage

All Ipads are for zoom use only and should not be tampered with or altered in any way. If any were tampered, we would remove the ipad.

We will tell you how to connect your computer. You will need:

  • a reasonably up-to-date PC or Mac. Unfortunately the online platform does not yet work well on iPads.
  • a reasonably fast and reliable broadband connection.
  • a headset with earphones and microphone. This avoids ‘feedback’ screech.
  • an email address

Please discuss and agree with your tutor how long your tutorial will be.

To help you make progress your tutor may set homework tasks with deadlines. We ask parents to help ensure these are sent in by the deadline.

If a student has to be entered for any exam as a private entry (i.e. not through their own school) parents are responsible for making the arrangements. We can give guidance on exam boards and how to go about entering.

You and your tutor will agree on the charge for each lesson. Your tutor will not deliver a tutorial unless payment has been received by LoveMaths Tutoring.

See price list below:

1 Full Tuition session – £40 (Sessions last between 45-55 minutes depending on the student, topic and other variables but are generally around 50 minutes)

If you require video solutions, or a quick video tutorial, we can also provide these. They are charged at our hourly rate (£40 p/h). This takes into account planning, resources, filming (effectively), uploading and then sharing the video. If this process takes less than the hour, this will be charged pro – rate. So if it was a 30 minute process becuase of the topic, then this would only cost £20. All videos are paid for in advance of work commencing, see your tutor for estimation of price!

Payment is always to be made the day before the session takes place, but can happen more than one day before. When using BACS please use the reference of ‘Maths Tuition’ followed by your students initials. I.e If David Smith is receiving a 1 hour face to face session we would expect the reference : MATHSTUITIONDS

If you do have any questions regarding payments, please contact your tutor. Tutors must not conduct a session, without taking initial payment first. The only exception to not paying a day before is if payment method is cash.

If your tutor cannot attend a tutorial – They must give you 24 hours’ notice of this, and the agreed slot must be rearranged to an alternate date that both parties can agree on. If your tutor gives you less than 24 hours notice then there is no obligation to rearrange, and you can move to your next booking (If you had block booked, or have a usual slot). If payment has not been taken, there is no obligation to pay. If payment has already been made, a refund may be offered or the payment can be moved to the next booking.

If you cannot attend a tutorial – You will give your tutor at least 24 hours notice and ask to agree another tutorial, if possible, at the usual charge – If this is not possible a refund may be issued if payment has already been taken. If you give your tutor less than 24 hours notice you will be charged for the missed tutorial and any replacement tutorial you may agree with your tutor.

If either of you is prevented from attending by a genuine emergency, please agree this directly between you.

If either you or your tutor decides to stop the tutorials permanently, you will give each other at least 2 weeks’ notice. Please see also point 10 ‘Refunds’ below.

If a tutorial is interrupted by a technical problem at your tutor’s end (such as machine breakdown or an interruption to the connection) the charge for the tutorial will be reduced in proportion to the time lost. Please see also point 9 ‘Refunds’ below.

If the tutorial is interrupted by a technical problem at your end the charge for the tutorial will not be reduced.

Once you pay for a block of four tutorials your tutor will reserve the dates and times agreed with you. Should you choose to stop tuition before you have had all four tutorials it is most unlikely that your tutor will be able to find another client for exactly that time, so will lose income. For this reason you will not be refunded the cost of the outstanding tutorials.

Only one student will take part in a tutorial unless you and your tutor agree that other students can join in, up to no more than three in all. You and your tutor must both be confident that extra students will not slow down each other’s progress, so you would start off with conversations and trial tutorials. You would also both be able to ask for the new student to leave the course at 24 hours notice.

New students’ parents must agree to this Learning Agreement.

You and your tutor will agree the charge for each lesson as in point 7 above. Your tutor will usually charge more than for a single tutorial as more time will be needed for preparation, assessment and administration. However the charge per student will usually be lower than for a single student.

For example: suppose your tutor charges £29/hour for a GCSE Maths session. The charge for two students might be £35/hour, or £17.50 each.

If you introduce another student, and if you and your tutor agree to joint tutorials, you will be responsible for payments and will make your own arrangements with the other parents to share our charges.

If your tutor introduces another student, and if you and your tutor agree to joint tutorials, your tutor will be responsible for asking for payments separately from parents.

Child protection is our first priority.

All our tutors hold Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly CRB) certificates of disclosure.

All our tutors abide by the Tutors’ Association Code of ethics for tutors (see page 6 below)

During tutorials we communicate using online voice and video links. We encourage parents to observe or join in as they wish. Our first line of communication for administration (such as timetable changes) is with parents. When we exchange emails or messages directly with a student (such as comments on a homework task) we will always copy parents in.

Where lessons are through zoom, for the safety of the student as well as the tutor, all sessions are recorded and then saved in an encrypted file which are then destroyed 4 years after lesson date.

We am not liable for any direct, incidental, consequential, indirect, special, punitive or similar damages arising out of use of this tutoring service, or any errors or omissions in the content of our materials. You the client specifically waive any and all claims arising out of the use of our tutoring service.
